Mick left school at 15 years old  and followed his father (an exceedingly good Carpenter Joiner Builder) into the building industry to train as a Carpenter Joiner, started an  indentured apprenticeship in carpentry & joinery with W H Gaze of Surbiton where qualified carpenters and joiners shared their knowledge with him (two years in the Joinery workshop & two years on building sites) then to Stoban Joinery knocking up antiques 3 years with Bentalls of Kingston upon Thames on the maintenance team 2 years in Building Control with a London Borough (Learnt how to look at the whole picture there thank you) 9-10 years carpentry sub contracting to Focus21 (now Octagon) Kingston's (Hickman and Bishop),  Higs & Hill, Royco, Howard James ( employing 21 carpenters with all the associated headaches that entails) at certain times running 4-5 sites at a time, after my sub contracting days I had various roles Carpentry Foreman, Working Foreman  and Site Agent  for  Jarvis St Marys Hospital Paddington  firm  in Hampton and Fairbrier Homes Epsom 2004 saw the conclusion of a 10 year plus project in Chobham for a long standing client (since 1978) and a 3 month contract as Contracts Manager for Tolhurst Ltd at Lingfield Primary School Surrey doing an extension and internal alterations addressing health and safety issues as well as access for the disabled, surveyors for the client were Redmond Associates Lingfield Surrey. Striving to exceed expectations, seeking challenging new construction projects in an around Surrey.

Mick enrolled at Ewell Technical College (NESCOT) where he gained the advanced craft City & Guilds certificate in Carpentry & Joinery an un certificated pass in the Full Technological Certificate the same in the Ordinary  National  Certificate  in building construction  went 2/3 of the second year of  Higher  National  Certificate  in building construction.

Carpenters by the the nature of their work and the skill level required to execute their work proficiently, coupled with the necessary cooperation with other craftsmen during the construction process, generally acquire an in-depth knowledge of construction, which makes them ideal candidates for site management in the form of general foreman, site agents, contracts managers etc.
